I'm Anne Riggs, a highly experienced Plymouth childminder based in Eggbuckland, and close to Higher Compton and Marsh Mills. I have cared for children for over 30 years, watching them develop into happy, bright and young individuals. It's an incredibly rewarding experience.
I offer safe, flexible care in a home-from-home environment. Children are encouraged to take part in a wide variety of activities where they mix with other children of differing ages and backgrounds, having fun, learning and developing their social skills.
What is childminding? Is it similar to a nursery?
A childminder provides childcare for young children in their own family home. A childminder will usually look after up to three young children under 5 at the same time, meaning your child is always receiving the attention and support that they require from the same person.
Babies, toddlers and young children benefit from this continuous care; this warm, nurturing childminder will be the same face that your child sees each morning, often in contrast to commercial nurseries and pre-schools where staff work on rotas and may be inexperienced, often having to look after as many as eight children at a time. Childminding is different and ensures that your child receives the love, care and individual attention that they need to grow and develop.
Childminders are able to develop closer relationships with the children they look after, providing more personalised care and are able to extend child initiated play tailoring activities which will enhance each individual child's learning and development, helping them to reach their unique potential. The children also form closer, sibling like bonds with their friends, both at the childminders and within the wider community at the regular activity groups they attend.
